Delightfully Outrageous Photos From the Comedy Pet Photo Awards
Pets rarely follow directions, and sometimes that’s what makes them so funny. The Comedy Pet Photo Awards celebrate the accidents, interruptions, and total chaos that animals bring into our homes. This annual contest is created by the same team behind the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards, and highlights the humor in everyday pet life.
Even better, the contest helps support animal welfare groups in the U.K. Here are some of the best entries.
The Bubble-Butt Labrador Who Won It All

Zoe Ross submitted a photo of her Labrador puppy, Pepper, without much expectation. A bubble floating behind the pup’s backside hinted at a very specific moment. Titled “Whizz Pop,” the image won top prize and captured a kind of chaos no human could plan.
Shadow Encounter of the Chick Kind

Sophie Bonnefoi’s chicks, Cutie and Speedy, were just two weeks old when they had their first existential moment. In “The Eureka Moment,” both appear mesmerized and slightly disturbed by their shadows. It’s unclear what they’re thinking, but their body language screams confusion.
A Great Dane Sits, Chaos Ensues

“Sit!” captures a child giving a command to Beau, a Great Dane the size of a loveseat. He listens. Then gravity does its thing. Suzi Lonergan’s photo feels familiar to anyone who’s ever tried to manage a large dog with a small human.
The Perfectly Timed Dog Bomb

Faith was celebrating her first proper outing in over a year when Hugo, her dog, lunged into the frame. Chloe Beck’s “Hugo the Photobomber” captures that moment mid-air. The timing is terrible for Faith. For everyone else, it’s a perfect reminder that dogs don’t believe in privacy or solemnity.
Dogs Who Jam Together, Stay Together

Luke O’Brien and his dog Flint took up music during lockdown. “Mumford and Chum” looks like a promo shot from a moody indie duo. Flint’s posture and expression match his human almost perfectly. It doesn’t matter if he’s actually singing or just tolerating it; the photo feels like a partnership.
Horse and Rider Share a Laugh

Jakub Gojda’s entry, “That Was a Good One!,” shows a rider and horse making the exact same face at the exact same moment. A fly seems to be the culprit, landing on the horse’s nose and triggering a shared reaction.
This Cat Understands Wine O’Clock

In “Wine Time,” Kathryn Clark’s cat, Little Blue, sits by a wine bottle with the blank stare of someone done with the day. The cat’s stillness, though, felt relatable to many, and it earned the image a spot on the Highly Commended list.
Beach Dog Plays Ostrich

Nuka, a dog on the Spanish coast, was caught playing what looked like hide-and-seek with no opponent. “Ostrich Style,” by Manel Subirats Ferrer, shows her with her head deep in the sand, capturing that all-too-familiar “if I can’t see it, it’s not happening” energy.
Morning Mood, Horse Edition

Mary Ellis got more than she bargained for at Platte River State Park. When she said “Good morning” to a nearby horse, it responded with what looked like either a roar or a massive yawn. The photo, “I Said ‘Good Morning,’” walks the line between attitude and unfortunate timing.
Jurassic Bark in a Garden Hose Showdown

In “Jurassic Bark,” a golden retriever named Clementine attacks a stream of water from a hose as if it insulted her ancestors. It looks like a velociraptor in golden fur. The angle and timing make it feel like a movie still.
