These Husky Mixes Are Adorable, and We Want Them All
These adorable husky mixes, like the husky Pomeranian and German shepherd husky, are so cute, you'll want to adopt one of each.
These Husky Mixes Are Adorable, and We Want Them All
Siberian huskies are the brilliant, athletic clowns of the dog world. They're capable of incredible feats, like pulling sleds for hundreds of miles and ripping the blinds to shreds. The spirited breed has a contagious energy, and over the years, several husky mixes have been developed.
These mixed breeds, also known as designer breeds, can lead to unpredictable results. You never know exactly what you're going to get, but most husky mixes are impossibly cute.
Check out 15 of the most popular husky mixes, and let us know which one you like the best!
Husky Corgi Mix
Height: 13-15 inches
Weight: 20-50 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Bottom Line: Husky Corgi Mix
The corgi husky mix is considered a working dog because both the Welsh corgi and the Siberian husky are categorized as such. Short, compact corgis are herding dogs with big, expressive eyes, and huskies are large sled dogs with an obsession with running.
Combining the two results in a medium-sized, fluffball of a dog that tends to be mischievous and stubborn in personality. It's possible for them to take after one parent or another, so their coloration can be sable, red, tan, fawn, black, agouti or grey. Those that take after the husky side may also have a white patch of fur on their face, but their looks and personality both vary.
Fun Fact: Husky Corgi Mix
The coat of a Siborgi is usually long, water-resistant and prone to heavy shedding.
With their varied coats, some of them resemble short-legged German shepherds.
Husky Akita Mix
Height: 22-25 inches
Weight: 50-75 pounds
Average lifespan: 11-15 years
Bottom Line: Husky Akita Mix
Husky akitas, also known as huskitas, are big, loyal and full of energy. A working dog, huskitas are naturally protective and are excellent candidates for becoming service dogs, therapy dogs or police dogs.
They come in several colors, including white, black and cream or tan, with some displaying a mix of several colors. While the crafty, high-voltage huskita could technically be kept in an apartment if given enough exercise, it's much wiser to keep them in a home with a large yard. They thrive when they have a job to do, so only get a huskita if you're ready for serious training. Couch potato life will quickly result in a bored huskita and no couch left at all.
Fun Fact: Husky Akita Mix
Akitas are better at being the only dog in a household, while huskies are pack animals.
It's the luck of the draw to find out which way your huskita will go when it comes to other animals.
German Shepherd Husky Mix
Height: 20-25 inches
Weight: 45-88 pounds
Average lifespan: 10-13 years
Bottom Line: German Shepherd Husky Mix
We're big fans of German shepherd husky mixes. While the results of crosses between huskies and much smaller breeds generate unpredictable results, breeding two large breeds with similar qualities yields a hard-working, loyal and beautiful dog.
This designer dog often has striking, icy blue eyes inherited from their husky parent, but their athleticism and intelligence is inherited from both sides. They bear an uncanny resemblance to wolves, so don't be surprised if people cross the street out of intimidation while you're taking your German shepsky on a walk. As wild as they may appear, they're great with kids and can become calm, gentle dogs when properly socialized.
Fun Fact: German Shepherd Husky Mix
Some German shepsky puppies are born with brown eyes, some with blue and a handful have one of each.
Boxer Husky Mix
Height: 20-25 inches
Weight: 35-80 pounds
Average lifespan: 8-10 years
Bottom Line: Boxer Husky Mix
The boxer husky is one designer dog that can absolutely never be kept in an apartment. The offspring of two hyperactive dog breeds, the boxer husky needs space to run around and space with high, secure fences at that. In addition to a secure yard, boxer huskies need to go on long daily walks, preferably runs, to stay healthy and prevent destructive behavior.
It's luck of the draw what personality each boxer husky puppy ends up with, but owners can expect a mix between the alert, watchdog qualities of boxers and the independent, willful curiosity of huskies.
Fun Fact: Boxer Husky Mix
Letting a boxer husky mix off-leash outside is a big no-no.
They have such a strong prey drive that they've been known to tear off after stray cats or squirrels, and they definitely don't stop and look both ways before running into traffic.
Australian Cattle Dog Husky Mix
Height: 17-23 inches
Weight: 40-60 pounds
Average lifespan: 11-16 years
Bottom Line: Australian Cattle Dog Husky Mix
The Ausky, a cross between the Australian cattle dog and the Siberian husky, is a working dog on steroids. It's unbelievable how much energy one Ausky dog can contain; if we could harness their energy, we could probably power a city block with it. They're extremely intelligent and driven, which is a double-edged sword. No Ausky will be content relaxing by the fire. They need a job to do that involves vigorous daily activity, like herding livestock or pulling carts.
If not socialized early, this unique designer dog is prone to becoming painfully stubborn, destructive and nippy. They've also been known to herd small children when they're feeling understimulated.
Fun Fact: Australian Cattle Dog Husky Mix
While Auskys are mostly very hardy, they are prone to developing progressive retinal atrophy, which eventually leads to blindness.
Unfortunately, no effective cure has been discovered so far.
Golden Retriever Husky Mix
Height: 20-24 inches
Weight: 45-90 pounds
Average lifespan: 10-14 years
Bottom Line: Golden Retriever Husky Mix
Imagine a dog with the gentle temperament of a golden retriever and the intelligence of a husky. That's the goal of the goberian breed, a cross between the sweet golden retriever and the Siberian husky.
Both breeds are fast learners, but it's luck of the draw whether they inherit the retriever's eager-to-please personality or the husky's stubborn streak. Firm, consistent training from puppyhood is a must. As long as you're up to the task, well-behaved goberians can be taught to master dozens of different activities, including hunting, agility training, and search and rescue.
Fun Fact: Golden Retriever Husky Mix
Visually, the look of a goberian can lean in either direction. Some have long, floppy ears, others have upright ones, and their coloration can be inherited from either parent.
The most sought-after phenotype combines the golden's silky, golden coat with the husky's piercing blue eyes. Because they're so rare, owners can expect to shell out thousands for a goberian like that.
Pomeranian Husky Mix
Height: 10-15 inches
Weight: 20-30 pounds
Average lifespan: 13-15 years
Bottom Line: Pomeranian Husky Mix
The large size of Siberian huskies can be a turn off for some who don't have a yard to offer. Husky mixes with smaller breeds can deliver many of the desirable traits of the husky in a smaller package, and pomskies are a favorite. Many of them look like extra-fluffy, miniature huskies, with prick ears and a curled tail.
They come in several colors, including brown, pure white, gray and red, and they rarely exceed 30 pounds. While they still have tons of energy and need lots of time outdoors, their small size makes them much better candidates for apartment life than most other husky mixes.
Fun Fact: Pomeranian Husky Mix
We're trying to keep this one PG, but there are some, ahem, logistical challenges involved in the husky pom breeding process.
Usually, artificial insemination is used to eliminate the height difference issue.
Husky Labrador Retriever Mix
Height: 20-25 inches
Weight: 40-60 pounds
Average lifespan: 10-15 years
Bottom Line: Husky Labrador Retriever Mix
The labsky, a mix between the labrador retriever and the Siberian husky, often carries the best traits of both breeds. They're loyal, smart and active — the perfect pal to run or hike with. Since their minds are often as active as their athletic, muscular bodies, offering interactive puzzle toys can help keep them stay occupied while you're not home to keep an eye on them.
Labskies were first bred in the 1990s, so the breed is still in development. They're usually highly social, however, and adore meeting new people. Their coats can be a mix of beautiful colors, and because both the retriever and the husky shed a lot, frequent brushing is a fundamental part of labsky ownership.
Fun Fact: Husky Labrador Retriever Mix
Labrador retriever husky mixes can go by one of two names: labsky or huskador.
We prefer the latter actually.
Husky Poodle Mix
Height: 12-25 inches
Weight: 40-60 pounds
Average lifespan: 10-13 years
Bottom Line: Husky Poodle Mix
Huskies and poodles are two of the most common choices for creating designer dogs. Just think of all the poodle mixes out there — pugles, golden doodles, schnoodles — you get the idea. There are a lot, and there's a reason for this. Poodles are affectionate, loving and downright adorable, with curly, hypoallergenic fur. Mixing almost any breed with poodle genes can yield some incredible combinations.
The husky poodle, also called the huskypoo, poosky, Siberpoo, huskydoodle and Siberian poodle, is both snuggly and hilarious. They can, however, be either their owner's best friend or worst enemy. Aggressiveness is uncommon toward people, but a bored, attention-starved huskypoo can become extremely aggressive with your furniture. Even the walls aren't safe from a frustrated huskypoo. They're also prone to developing separation anxiety, so this breed is best for handlers who can spend hours a day showering their beloved pooch with love.
Fun Fact: Husky Poodle Mix
For some reason, the huskypoo tends to develop food allergies.
Owners should prepare for the possibility of having to feed them hypoallergenic, prescription kibble, which is much more expensive than the run-of-the-mill, bargain stuff.
Pitbull Husky Mix
Height: 16-25 inches
Weight: 30-80 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Bottom Line: Pitbull Husky Mix
The pit bull has the undeserved reputation of being aggressive and unpredictable, but they were originally bred to be gentle guardians. Given their true roots, they're an excellent breed to include in designer dog breed mixes. The pitsky is a mix between the American pit bull terrier and the Siberian husky, resulting in a medium- to large-sized dog.
Their copious amounts of energy are balanced with their fierce loyalty to their favorite humans, making them fabulous dogs for active family life. "Active" is the keyword, there. Pitskies are high-energy dogs that can be quite demanding, so they're a poor choice for first-time dog owners. For experienced keepers, however, they can be a dream.
Fun Fact: Pitbull Husky Mix
Pitskies can be a great choice for allergy sufferers, but as with all mixed breeds, your results may vary.
Some pitskies inherit the longer fur of the husky, but most have short coats that shed less than average.
Husky American Eskimo Mix
Height: 21-24 inches
Weight: 40-60 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Bottom Line: Husky American Eskimo Mix
The huskimo is a crossbreed made for cold weather. The husky originated in Northeastern Siberia, boasting an extreme tolerance to icy climates and vigorous activity. Meanwhile, American Eskimos come from Germany, descended from the German spitz dog. Both have long, warm fur, so their offspring is practically made for living in Canada or Iceland.
Huskimos are a fairly new breed, but they've been selectively bred to be highly intelligent, tolerant to harsh conditions and extremely athletic. While this breed is average in size, their endless energy and strong pack instinct can go haywire in the hands of an inexperienced dog owner.
Fun Fact: Husky American Eskimo Mix
While the first huskimo dogs were bred by combining a husky and an American Eskimo, enough generations have passed that the huskimo is now bred from two huskimo parents.
Husky Rottweiler Mix
Height: 20-26 inches
Weight: 55-95 pounds
Average lifespan: 10-14 years
Bottom Line: Husky Rottweiler Mix
If we had to choose one husky mix that's the least well-suited to being a typical family dog, it's the rottsky. A hybrid between the German rottweiler guard dog and the willful Siberian husky, the rottsky is not for inexperienced dog owners. We don't mean to hurt any feelings, but a first-time dog owner is likely to find training a rottsky to be painfully challenging, if not impossible.
Rottskies tend to be highly independent and extremely active, requiring at least two-hour-long walks or runs to keep their destructive behavior in check. If you do have the experience and patience, however, rottskies can be molded into helpful working companions.
Fun Fact: Husky Rottweiler Mix
Because both breeds are known for their thick coats, the rottsky is much happier living in cooler climates.
Caution should be taken in the summer months when temperatures climb into the 80s and beyond.
Husky Pug Mix
Height: 10-23.5 inches
Weight: 14-36 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Bottom Line: Husky Pug Mix
There are few husky mixes as surprising as the husky pug. It's hard to imagine two breeds more different than the husky and the pug. The husky is a large, high-energy working dog with a huge personality, while the pug is a small, stout, brachiocephalic dog that is rarely seen running anywhere other than to their food bowl.
The husky pug, or hug (stop it!), can carry traits from either parent. In general, the husky pug is affectionate, gentle and friendly, but the breed does require plenty of obedience training and physical activity. This is both to keep their weight and their stubborn attitude in check. Don't be fooled by their compact size; a fenced in yard is a must with hugs, lest they channel their extra energy into ripping up every roll of toilet paper they can reach.
Fun Fact: Husky Pug Mix
Since mixed breed dogs can take on traits from either parent, it's a toss-up as to whether or not a husky pug will shed like mad.
It's very much a possibility, so don't get one unless you're willing to brush your dog daily.
Dachshund Husky Mix
Height: 10-20 inches
Weight: 16-60 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-15 years
Bottom Line: Dachshund Husky Mix
Dachshund huskies, also known as duskies, are one of our faves. Just look at this little guy. It's no wonder that duskies are so amazing; both parent breeds are some of America's favorites, with the husky ranking No. 12 and the dachshund ranking No. 13 on the American Kennel Club's popularity list.
Their appearance can vary substantially, but that's all part of the fun of owning a dusky. Will it have the erect ears of a husky or the long, floppy ears of a dachshund? Brown eyes or blue? The lanky build of a husky or the stumpy legs of a mini dachshund? Their coats vary in color, length and texture as well.
Since both breeds have a strong hunting instinct, keeping them with small pets is ill-advised. Duskies should also remain on their leashes whenever they're not in a secure, fenced-in area because their longing to chase often overrules common sense.
Fun Fact: Dachshund Husky Mix
Since there are two different kinds of dachshunds, it's important to ask breeders if they use mini dachshunds in their breeding programs or standard-sized ones.
Duskies produced from standard dachshunds are much larger than those from mini dachshunds, some of which never exceed 5 inches in height.
Husky Shiba Inu Mix
Height: 15-20 inches
Weight: 25-50 pounds
Average lifespan: 12-16 years
Bottom Line: Husky Shiba Inu Mix
A husky shiba inu mix is as close as one can get to owning a fox wolf hybrid. Husky inus have thick, double coats that come in several colors, with black and white being the most common. Both breeds are bright, independent and known for their ability to escape almost any enclosure.
Don't get one unless you know exactly what you're getting into. Their adorable faces are hard to resist, but the combination of the shiba inu's aloof demeanor and the husky's curious, stubborn personality is tricky to manage. Destructive behavior is often the result of a lack of obedience training and exercise, which is why both huskies and shiba inus end up in shelters more often than many other breeds.
They also leave tumbleweeds of fur around the house, so consider that too before adopting one.
Fun Fact: Husky Shiba Inu Mix
Because shiba inus and Siberian huskies both have an extremely high prey drive, keeping a husky shiba inu mix around small pets, like cats or rabbits, isn't the best plan.
