Man Lets His Hamster Reply to Comments and the Results are Hilarious
Duncan the dwarf hamster has become an unlikely TikTok star and not for running on a wheel or stuffing his cheeks. His owner, who runs the account @duncan.the.dwarf, shared a short clip of the tiny hamster “replying” to comments on a tablet.
The clip lasts just nine seconds, but it’s pure comedy gold. Duncan sits near the screen, paws twitching and eyes wide, as if deep in thought while “typing” responses. With over 13 million views, 820K likes, and tens of thousands of comments, the internet couldn’t get enough of this tiny hamster’s big personality.
The Hamster Behind the Hype
So who exactly is this pint-sized internet celebrity? Duncan is a dwarf hamster, part of a species known for their small size and fast movements. These little creatures are one of five main domesticated hamster species: Syrian, Winter White Dwarf, Campbell’s Dwarf, Chinese, and Roborovski. Dwarf hamsters like Duncan are known for being quick, active, and packed with personality, which explains why he’s such a natural on camera.
Tony Rose Adler from the California Hamster Association says each species brings its own temperament. Syrians are calmer and easier to handle, while Roborovskis like Duncan are all energy, darting around their enclosures and stealing the spotlight without trying. Since hamsters are most active around dawn and dusk, Duncan’s owner gets plenty of golden-hour moments that practically film themselves. Give him a tablet, and the humor takes care of itself.

What makes Duncan so entertaining isn’t complicated. His videos hit that perfect mix of humor and familiarity. Watching him “type” replies feels oddly relatable, like he’s in on the joke. People see a bit of themselves in his tiny gestures, which turns a nine-second clip into something everyone wants to share.
Hamsters naturally lend themselves to this kind of charm. They’re expressive, quick, and full of quirks. Dr. Courtney Campbell, a small-animal surgeon, points out that hamsters can puff up their cheek pouches to float in water—proof of how adaptable they are. Clips like Duncan’s remind viewers that even the smallest pets have personalities worth watching.
Not Only Likes and Views
Duncan’s sudden fame has also sparked interest in hamster care. Many fans have asked questions about his diet and home setup. Hamster experts recommend a minimum of 600 square inches of space, deep bedding for burrowing, and hamster-safe chews to keep their ever-growing teeth in check. They’re solitary animals, too, so Duncan’s solo stardom actually fits his species perfectly.
