This adorable pup is quite active but also likes to chill with its family. While they’re typically a bit larger than their cocker spaniel relative, they have the same droopy ears and wise instincts.

Built for sporting activities, the English cocker spaniel is also more athletic and is bred for hunting and fieldwork.

First, let’s get this out of the way: The Pembroke Welsh corgi and the Cardigan Welsh corgi are quite different. For instance, the Pembroke is smaller, with a shorter tail and body as well as pointed ears.

One of the most popular breeds to date, the Pembroke makes a great family pet, with its sensitive and smart demeanor. Plus, they make surprisingly great watchdogs despite their small stature.

Also known as the Sheltie, the Shetland sheepdog looks a lot like the larger collie dog breed — the breed of the famous Lassie character. Like their famous cousin, Shelties are obedient and smart.

They’re also sensitive and affectionate, with their impressive ability to read the mood of the room. They also respond well to obedience exercises and can become world-class competitors with enough training.

German shepherds make excellent work dogs, and they actually enjoy being trained. That’s why you’ll see these quick learners in police K-9 units or helping out during wartime.

While they’re quite large in size, they are actually great around families and make excellent watchdogs. It’s important to note, however, that they need proper exercise or they can become bored and eventually aggressive.

While this breed tends to have some of the more ridiculous hairdos, don’t be fooled. These dogs happen to be the smartest, and like the German shepherd, they love obedience training and are quite athletic.

Owning a poodle, however, can be a serious commitment. They require a lot of exercise, and their fur must be groomed thoroughly each day, even if cut short.
