10 States Where You Can Legally Own a Capybara and One That Surprises Everyone
Capybaras are cute and also a little unusual, especially for their status as giant rodents and their strange ability to get along with nearly every animal on Earth. Videos on the internet are countless, where we see capybaras making nice pets, and that popularity has sparked a lot of curiosity about owning one in the United States. Luckily, there are a few states in the US that legally allow you to keep capybaras as pets.
Texas

Texas laws are pretty relaxed when it comes to exotic animal laws, so capybaras fit right in. In many parts of the state, residents can legally own one without dealing with a mountain of paperwork.
